New Year, New Pilates Centre, New You!

New Years has come and gone in the blink of an eye as it does every year. Resolutions have been made....and possibly broken by now too. In case you missed it, NQPC has a Pilates studio at our clinic in the Eastbrooke Health Hub, where we have qualified physios to assist in one on one and group Pilates. Groups are kept relatively small to ensure our patients receive the attention and feedback needed to get the most out of their Pilates session. We are also excited to mention that our Women's Health physio Roxanne will be running Mums and Bubs Pilates sessions on Tuesdays. So what are the benefits of clinical Pilates?

Firstly, let's clarify that there is a difference between your regular fitness Pilates and clinical Pilates. While Pilates for fitness has become a craze due to the likes of Cameron Diaz, Megan Fox, Madonna and Sandra Bullock, clinical Pilates is more than just a method to #sweat or #workyourcore. Pilates develops much of what exercisers need. That is:

  • Strength

  • Flexibility

  • Muscular endurance

  • Coordination

  • Balance

  • Good posture

Clinical Pilates emphasises good technique and is directed by a physiotherapist who is well educated on your injury, history and pathology. Your physiotherapist will know how to adjust or modify the Pilates exercises so they are accurate and individualised. Rather than focusing on general fitness and conditioning, clinical Pilates is utilised as a form of physiotherapy treatment. Exercises are specifically chosen based on your condition, and the physio ensures that you are switching on the correct muscles rather than compensating with other muscle groups. As well as improving the above listed factors, clinical Pilates can be a great way to address your pain, learn some self management exercises to prevent future flare ups, and one of our favourites....get those endorphines pumping.

Conditions which may benefit from clinical Pilates may include:

  • Lower back pain

  • Shoulder pain and shoulder injuries

  • Hip and gluteal injuries

  • Women's Health/pelvic floor conditions

  • Pregnancy

  • Neck and thoracic patholgy

  • Knee and foot pathology with weight bearing restrictions

  • Arthritis

  • Fibromyalgia or polymyalgia

We have multiple group classes on each day of the week. Click here to see our full list of class times. If you want to know more information or would like to come to a class, please give us a call on 4723 2233 to book in.
